So I went to Whistler yesterday! And I Skied, oh did I Ski! I've got a tonne of amazing pictures to go along as well while i tell the story. Right now my upper and lower back, quads, and calves are destroyed. But its a feeling of accomplishment, i tackled Whistler.
It all started at 6:00AM on Sunday morning. Yea i know soooooo early. I got dressed, and headed out front to meet up with Geraldine. She lives across the street in a neighboring tower, and we walked down a few blocks to Budget. Ok, i lied... I guess this story actually started the day before, because i got my Skis waxed and sharpened at the local SportChek. Surprisingly both cost under $20. So back to Budget, there was 7 of us and we decided to rent a mini-van. For some reason when we got there they gave us a pimped out Explorer.... It was sweet but it was NOT going to fit all of us, so we traded it in for a Sienna. *this turned out to be like $50 cheaper for some reason* We waited for everyone to arrive and piled in.
I was super tired on the trip up so i slept a bit on the way there. Here's some pictures of the other people i went up with.
We stopped at a McDonald's on the way up so some of us could grab breakfast. I had got myself a sandwich at Starbuck's just before we left but it was a bad mistake because it made my stomach upset all morning.
We got there and a bunch of people went to get rentals. Myself, Jonas and Olivier already had our own gear and so we decided to head up on and get a few runs while they were busy renting etc. This ended up an an extra hour of Skiing, GOOD CHOICE! Jonas bought a new board the day before... very masculine.
We decided since we were probably the better 3 skiiers that we should try the challenging runs before we grouped up with the other which would slow us down. I was self-admittedly the weakest of the 3 of us. Olivier teaches at the top ski-school in France and grew up in the Alps. Jonas is from Switzerland and used to work in the swiss alps.
After we finished our first run and got warmed up, we decided to hit the 'Whistler Bowl'. A straight wall black diamond run. Easily the toughest run of my life so far and VERY enjoyable. By the time i got down the first segment, my legs had had too much and i was forced to sit for a few seconds while the lactic acid drained. To get into the run you literally had to step off a cliff down into the moguls. It really was a different level of skiing.
So after 3 runs (= 1 hour) we met back up with the rest of the group and did some more skiing. I got some awesome shots. Including a CRAZY rainbow phenomena in a slightly desolate part of the mountain on a short Diamond section.
Ranbows!
I have a few more rainbow shots. Can upload on request.
And so we skied the whole day, the weather in the morning was absolutely fantastic, and it got a bit cloudy as the day wore on. But still an awesome time. Sadly they close down around 3:30PM and we headed back home. By the time we rolled out it was pitch back on the drive back and it was only like 4:30PM.
I may get some more pics later on and continue the post but thats about it. Till next time. Ciao!
